PORTA SUSA RAILWAY STATION ROOF

Structural Design for the Station Roof

O&M Ingegneria

Turin Porta Susa Station is a strategic hub for regional, national and high-speed traffic. Part of the Spina Centrale regeneration project, it extends along the former railway trench of Corso Lione, integrating infrastructure with the urban fabric.

The project, designed by architect Silvio D'Ascia, stands out for its 385-metre-long steel-and-glass gallery, with a lightweight, transparent roof. The structure comprises commercial steel decks and 110 variable-curvature arches, made with lightened welded plates to optimise weight and strength.

O&M Ingegneria designed the steel members of the roof and the internal decks, developing an FEM model to analyse the interactions between the metal structure and the photovoltaic glazing, ensuring performance and engineering precision.
