Structural Design, Design and Construction of Special Foundations
Acqui Terme (AL), 2010
O&M Ingegneria
The construction of the Residenza Panorama in Acqui Terme required solving complex geotechnical and structural challenges, related to the construction of a two-level underground garage in a restricted area adjacent to the Rio Medrio stream, which is channelled within a box-section reinforced concrete structure.
The work was carried out without compromising the existing structure and without transferring its weight onto the new foundations. The proximity to residential buildings required deep excavation below foundation level, without causing subsidence.
In the absence of temporary tie-rods, the excavation was contained by prestressed steel struts, which effectively counteracted the micropile retaining walls (Berlin walls).
The building was constructed in reinforced concrete using traditional techniques and represents one of the first buildings in the area designed according to the seismic criteria of the NTC (Italian Technical Standards for Construction), with reinforced concrete shear walls to ensure stability and safety.
